Folkwang

If you are planning to  go abroad, you should start looking into funding early on. These are some options at and outside of Folkwang:

1. ERASMUS+

Erasmus+ offers scholarships for:

·         Studying abroad at an Erasmus+ partner university in Europe

·         Internships abroad in another European country

The monthly scholarship rates are based on the cost of living in each destination country.

Application:

For a study abroad stay at one of our partner universities: By January 15 for the following academic year

For an internship abroad: Up to 6 weeks before the start of the internship

2. PROMOS

The PROMOS programme offers scholarships for:

·         Language courses (3 weeks – 6 months) at universities and language schools abroad worldwide

·         Masterclasses and workshops (up to 6 weeks) at universities or music/arts organizations abroad worldwide

Application: By December 10 for the following year

3. BAföG for studying abroad

If you are eligible for BAföG (German federal student support), you may also be able to receive it while studying abroad. In certain cases, depending on the destination country, additional allowances for studying abroad and travel expenses may be paid, and tuition fees may be covered.

The application for BAföG abroad is submitted to the BAföG office responsible for the respective destination country.

4. DAAD scholarships

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports academic exchange worldwide through various scholarship programs for students, graduates, and doctoral candidates. It funds study abroad stays, internships, and short stays.

Since the application deadlines are often very long, you should start planning at least one year before the start of your planned stay abroad. Current calls for applications can be found in the DAAD | Scholarship Database.

5. Scholarships at Folkwang

Folkwang University of the Arts awards various performance-based scholarships to particularly talented students. These scholarships are intended to support your studies at Folkwang in general, not stays abroad specifically. Before applying, find out whether the scholarship can be continued during a stay abroad and, if applicable, during a leave of absence. If you would like to combine several partial scholarships, find out in advance whether double funding is permitted.

The Folkwang funding department can advise you on scholarship programs at Folkwang.

6. Foundations and other funding organizations

The Association of Foundations in Germany offers a scholarship database that you can search for suitable options.

The Ranke-Heinemann Institute awards scholarships for study visits to Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) organizes various programs and projects designed to promote Franco-German exchange.

7. Student loans

Depending on the circumstances, you may consider applying for a student loan to finance a stay abroad. Please note: Student loans are loans that must be repaid with interest. They are offered by various banks, so make sure to compare the conditions offered if this is what you choose to do.
