Student Advisory Service at the Folkwang University of the Arts

Welcome to the Student Advisory Service!

We are the first point of contact for prospective and current students with any questions or problems around studying at Folkwang. Based on your individual situation, we would like to help you find your way to a decision or solution. This service is confidential, free of charge and available in German or English.

Mon – Fri 10:00 – 12:00 noon and by appointment, Campus Essen-Werden, Room V015
Thu 10:00 – 12:00 noon and by appointment, Campus Welterbe Zollverein | Quartier Nord, Room 1.07

When you log in to the Zoom office hour, you will first be placed in a waiting room. We will speak to you individually, in the order in which you arrive. During busy periods, there may be waiting times. We ask for your patience - you will be called in as soon as possible. Alternatively, feel free to contact us to schedule an appointment.

Feel free to drop by during our office hours, no appointment required.

What we can help you with:

Prospective students

• Content, structure and requirements of our study courses

• Choosing the right course for you

• Admission and language requirements

• Application process and aptitude tests

Current students

• Administrative procedures (re-enrolment, leaves of absence, regulations, deadlines)

• Planning your studies (signing up for classes and exams, recognition of previous studies, final exams and graduation) 

• Difficulties (e.g. difficulties in completing your course or personal difficulties related to your studies)

• Reorientation (e.g. switching to a different study course, university or career path)

• Maternity protection

General

• Different study models (e.g. studying part-time or as a guest auditor)

• Studying in Germany as an international student (e.g. issues relating to your residence permit)

• Student life and student housing

• Finding the right contact persons at the university

• Referral to services outside the university

In addition, the student advisory service provides introductory meetings for first-year students and info sessions for prospective students in cooperation with other Folkwang faculty and staff. We also participate in education fairs and similar events events in cooperation with the Landesmusikakademie NRW, the University of Duisburg-Essen and others.

For subject-specific consultations, e.g. to assess your artistic performance level, please contact the lecturers of the respective study course or visit the info sessions held by the respective course or department. Portfolio consultation appointments for the bachelor's courses photography, product design and communication design are coordinated by Ms. Sonja Zenker.
