PROMOS

PROMOS is a short-term mobility programme for students. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The call for applications is subject to the allocation of funds for the next calendar year by the DAAD.

Application deadline: December 10 for stays abroad beginning in the following calendar year

What kind of stays can be funded?

  • Language courses (3 weeks - 6 months, at least 25 lesson units per week (one unit = 45 minutes)) at universities or established language institutes abroad worldwide

Academic courses (up to 6 weeks), e.g. summer schools or master classes, at universities or academic organisations abroad worldwide

Study trips (up to 12 days) abroad worldwide, accompanied and applied for by a faculty member

Competition trips (up to 12 days) abroad worldwide, accompanied and applied for by a faculty member

Stays in the home country of the participating student are not eligible from funding. For these purposes, the home country is defined as the main country of residence in the preceding five years.

Stays abroad in regions for which the Federal Foreign Office has issued a travel warning are not eligible for funding. If a travel warning is issued during your stay, you are required to leave the country. Funding will not be continued in these cases.

Grant amounts

The grant amounts are based on the DAAD funding rates for partial scholarship rates, travel allowances and, if applicable, allowances for accommodation costs (only for study trips) as well as the lump sum for course fees (only for language and academic courses). Scholarships for tuition fees are not awarded by Folkwang University of the Arts.

The selection committee reserves the right to award only some of the possible grant components for each type of mobility (e.g. only a travel allowance but no partial scholarship). Stays may also be partially funded (e.g. actual stay six months, funding through PROMOS for four months). There is no legal claim to any specific component of the funding.

Participants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or a chronic illness can apply for a grant to cover additional expenses incurred during their stay abroad. One of the prerequisites for this is that health and other insurance providers have denied coverage of these costs. In this case, please contact the International Office in good time, as the application must be submitted at least 2 months in advance.

Who can apply?

Students with regular matriculation status (including doctoral students; excluding exchange students, junior students and guest auditors) at Folkwang University of the Arts can apply for funding for a language or academic course.

Faculty members at Folkwang University of the Arts planning to accompany Folkwang students can apply for funding for a study or competition trip. In this case, all participants, i.e. the students and the accompanying faculty members, are eligible for funding.
