DAAD-Scholarships (STIBET I) for International Students and Doctoral Candidates

The combined scholarship and mentoring program (STIBET I) of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. From these funds, Folkwang University of the Arts awards:

Who can apply?

These scholarships are aimed at international students, i.e. students and doctoral candidates who have acquired their university entrance qualification abroad and do not have German citizenship. Students must be enrolled in a full degree course; exchange students, free movers and guest auditors are not eligible.

Application deadline

December 15th 2023 for a scholarship in the summer semester 2024

Scholarship amount and duration

STIBET I scholarships are awarded for the duration of four months each in the winter or summer semester. The grant amounts to 1.000 € total.

In the summer semester 2024, the scholarships will be paid out in four instalments of 250 € each from April to July.

Selection criteria

Good academic performance is required for all STIBET scholarships, as evidenced by previous grades and the letter of recommendation. Among equally suitable applicants, social criteria such as financial need will be taken into account.

Graduation scholarships can be awarded to students who are expected to complete their studies within a year.

Scholarships for Equal Opportunities can be awarded to students facing special challenges:
_Students with a refugee background
_Students who are parents
_Students providing care work to a family member

_Students with a disability (GdB of 50 or higher)

Application and selection process

Please send your application to foerderung(at)folkwang-uni.de by December 15th 2023, including the following documents:

  • Application form: Download here. Please fill out the entire form. You can use it to provide additional information on how you meet the selection criteria, your academic performance and your financial situation.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Current certificate of study
  • Current transcript of records: This can be obtained from the examinations office. It should contain all the exams you have taken and all the grades you have received so far.
  • Letter of recommendation from one of your teachers
  • In addition, for a graduation scholarship: Evidence that you can expect to complete your studies within a year (the transcript of records is sufficient if it shows that you lack no more than approx. 60-90 credits for graduation).
  • In addition, for a scholarship for equal opportunities: Evidence that you are facing one of the special challenges listed in the selection criteria. For instance, depending on the category: Your disability card, a medical certificate, a maternity pass, a birth certificate for our child(ren), a refugee residence permit, etc.* Any information not relevant to your scholarship application may be blacked out in the documents.

Make sure to allow sufficient time for the preparation of the transcript of records and the letter of recommendation. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

The scholarship holders will be chosen by the scholarship committee of the Folkwang University of the Arts on the basis of the selection criteria.
