Vita


The pianist Maxim Shamo, praised for his sensitivity and depth of interpretation, belongs to the new, successful generation of song accompanists. At the age of twelve, Shamo embarked on his first concert tour across Ukraine and Sweden. Since then, he has performed on European stages, both in solo recitals and as a soloist with various orchestras.


Following his musical journey, Maxim Shamo studied under Prof. Ludger Maxsein at the Folkwang University of the Arts (Essen, Germany), Prof. Staffan Scheja (Stockholm, Sweden), and Prof. Willem Brons (Amsterdam, Netherlands). Masterclasses with Irwin Gage, Robert Levin, Udo Reinemann, Malcolm Martineau, Olaf Bär, and Jeffrey Cohen provided important artistic impulses and completed his education.


During his years of study, Shamo discovered his passion for the art song. A pivotal turning point in his career was his encounter with Maestro Helmut Deutsch at the Salzburg Summer Academy Mozarteum, who has since become his mentor and whose influence continues to shape Shamo’s artistic work to this day.


In addition to his concert activities in Germany and other European countries, Maxim Shamo teaches piano and song accompaniment at the renowned Folkwang University of the Arts. Furthermore, he regularly holds masterclasses in song interpretation. From autumn 2025, Maxim Shamo will take on the artistic direction of the newly established concert series Liedkammer at the Palais Wittgenstein in Düsseldorf, dedicated to the art song.
