Biography

Ben Fitzpatrick (b. 1998) is an Irish saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator. Born in Dublin, he moved to the United States at age nine, where he was raised and began his musical development. Under the mentorship of saxophone titans Joe Temperley (Duke Ellington Orchestra) and Ted Nash (Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra), Ben achieved early distinction, including two solo performances at Carnegie Hall and critical praise by name in The New York Times.

Ben has performed professionally across the United States and has had the privilege of working with and learning from legendary artists such as Jimmy Heath, Jimmy Greene, Bob Mintzer, Dick Oatts, and Wynton Marsalis. Their influence continues to inspire him as a musician.

After his studies in the USA, he continued his education at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. From then on, he became very active on the European jazz scene, performing with his own bands and alongside great musicians such as Jasper Blom, Peter Beets, and Georgie Fame. He has appeared at premier venues and festivals including Het Concertgebouw, Bimhuis, and the North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2019, Ben won the prestigious “Expression of the Art” Award with his quartet. Since 2022, Ben has been a member of the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany. In addition to his performance career, he recently joined the faculty of the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen as a substitute professor of saxophone.
