_Evidence of a first professionally qualifying degree (Bachelor of Music) comprising 240 ECTS credits in instrumental training, voice/music theatre or composition (including jazz or popular music) or in comparable musical/artistic courses of study, on which the Master's study Course is based. _The first professional qualification must have been studied with a major subject for which subject didactics is offered at the Folkwang University of the Arts; see the list of possible previous major subjects (in German only).
_Evidence of a teaching internship at music schools comprising 16 teaching units, at least three of which must be in the areas of a) artistic major subject individual lessons, b) artistic major subject small group lessons/ensemble, c) elementary level OR proof of two years of teaching experience at music schools. Proof must be provided by the time of enrolment at the latest.
_Evidence of study course-specific aptitude by passing the aptitude test at the Folkwang University of the Arts
_Applicants have to verify proof of language level C1 with enrolment.
_The required levels of language skills at Folkwang University of the Arts are in accordance to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
_50 € application fee: For your application a fee of € 50 is due. The amount will be shown to you in the application form.
_No tuition fees are charged at Folkwang.
_Each semester all students have to pay a social contribution for the services of the Student Union, a student contribution for the work of the AStA (General Student Committee) and the Deutschlandsemesterticket. A breakdown of the amounts plus information on how to pay is available here.
Folkwang actively supports the call of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to train people with disabilities as artists and therefore particularly welcomes applications for the guest student programme, regular study courses and requests for inclusive cooperation projects. Prospective students should make use of the possibility of a counselling meeting with the Representative for students with disability or chronic illness in advance.
Applications must be submitted via the Folkwang Application Portal by the end of the application period on 15 March (for the following winter semester). The portal is open for applications from 15 January to 15 March. Submit your application as early as possible. Only applications that have been submitted in full by the application deadline will be considered. Academic certificates must be submitted in the original German or English language or with an official translation.

_Written description of a project you have carried out yourself or a project idea
The aptitude test for the Music Pedagogy - compact study course usually takes place in May. The exact date can be found at the top right of this page. Please note that you must be present in person for this test.
The test consists of oral and practical partial examinations (in the form of a comprehensive examination) in accordance with the selected profile.
a) Presentation of the project or project idea, duration 10-12 minutes: The presentation is based on a written description of the project or project idea in German, no longer than three A4 pages (plus attachments if necessary). The project must also be carried out or planned with lay people and the artistic instrumental subject. Interdisciplinary projects/project ideas are permitted and expressly desired.
b) Pedagogical aptitude, duration 5-8 minutes: Discussion based on text excerpts presented at short notice.
c) Instruction of music-making groups, duration 6-8 minutes: rehearsal of a simple piece of music, a composition brought along by the candidate (2-3-part canon or similar) or a group improvisation; group size approx. 5-8 people (sheet music must be brought along if necessary).
Additionally in the instrumental and vocal pedagogy specialisation:
d) BILL (sight-reading, improvisation, song accompaniment, literature performance), duration 5-8 minutes:
For all artistic majors except piano/organ/harpsichord:
Performance of a piano piece, easy to medium difficulty, max. 4 minutes playing time,and ad hoc accompaniment of a song, pop song or similar; if necessary, small improvisation Tasks as well as small improvisation tasks.
For the main artistic subject piano / organ / harpsichord:
Performance of a piano piece, advanced level of difficulty, max. 4 minutes playing time, and ad hoc accompaniment of a song, pop song, or similar; if necessary, small improvisation tasks.
Additionally, in the composition pedagogy specialisation:
e) Improvisation tasks on the instrument, duration 5-8 minutes: Ad hoc, unprepared improvisation tasks.
Only after you have successfully applied for a study place is your last step in the application process enrolment. Enrolment takes place at the end of September for the start of studies in October and at the end of March for the start of studies in April. Please refer to your letter of admission for the exact period.
