Michèle Anne De Mey

She was born 1959 in Brussels and studied dance from 1976 – 1979 at the School „Mudra“ which was founded by Maurice Béjart. After her studies she worked for 6 years as a dancer and choreographer together with Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, i.e. in “Fase”, “Rosas danst Rosas”, “Elena’s Aria” and “Ottone ottone”.

At the same time she began with her own choreographic work: “Passe Simple” (1981), “Ballatum” (1984) and “FACE à FACE” (1986). 1990 she founded with her piece “Sinfonia Eroica” her own company. Since then she made 16 choreographies, which were all followed by international interest, last “12 Easy Dances” (2004), “Raining Dogs” (2002) and “Utopia” (2001).

Past that she is a teacher of great demand. She reaches i.e. in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Angers. At the 27th of June 2005 she was appointed together with her brother Thierry De Mey, Pierre Droulers and Vincent Thirion as new Artistic Directors of CHARLEROI/DANSES.

Thierry De Mey

He was born 1956 in Brussels, studied film directing and composition and is the co-founder of “Maximalist” and the Ensemble “Ictus”. In the time from 1983 and 2003 numerous compositions were created, which then were interpretated by international noted Ensembles.

Regularly, he works together with the choreographers Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekybus and Michèle Anne De Mey for whom he composes or rather with whom he realizes film projects.

For his work he was honoured with numerous prices, so the Bessie Award, Forum de Compositeurs de L’UNESCO, Eve du Spectacle, FONSKE, Best Belgian Short Film Award, SABAM and Cinergie. At the 27th of June 2005 he was appointed together with her sister Michèle Anne De Mey, Pierre Droulers and Vincent Thirion as new Artistic Directors of CHARLEROI/DANSES.
