Mui Cheuk Yin

The choreographer and dancer Mui Cheuk Yin trained in Hong Kong. She studied Chinese, Classical and Traditional Dance in the 70ies. 1981 she joined the Hong Kong Dance Company as soloist.

As winner of the „Young Choreographers” Competition of the City Hong Kong she got a scholarship to study Modern Dance in New York.

Since 1990 Mui Cheuk Yin works as freelance choreographer, dancer and teacher. As soloist she works for different companies, amongst others the Hong Kong Dance Company. 1991 she was awarded „Best Dancer of the Year” by the Hong Kong Artists` Guild.

She teaches Contact Improvisation at the Art Center and the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Her choreographic work encloses solos and full-length productions for different companies in Hong Kong.

Her solo works can be seen worldwide, as in the East & West Center in Hawaii, at the American Dance Festival and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. She was guest in Belgium, London, New York and in Wuppertal to the Anniversary of Pina Bausch 1998.

Her choreography „Whispering Colour” for the Folkwang Tanzstudio is the first group piece to have its Première outside Hong Kong.
