Along with musicians from Brazil, students of the Orchesterzentrum|NRW formed the “Young Euro Classic Orchestra Brazil-Germany”. The “Germany Year in Brazil” was officially opened with the orchestra playing on May 13th, 2013 and Federal President Joachim Gauck in the audience. Under the direction of Folkwang alumnus Lothar Zagrosek, guest professor of the Orchesterzentrum|NRW in 2012, young musicians performed the musical kick-off of the initiative “Germany and Brazil 2013-2014” at the Theatro Municupal in São Paulo.
The “Young Euro Classic Orchestra Brazil-Germany“ consists of 35 Brazilian and 35 German musicians. It was only founded for this occasion and its participants worked out a musical dialogue of both countries in a one-week rehearsal. The performed both, works of the European classic such as Johannes Brahms or Carl Maria von Weber as well as works of the most important Brazilian representative of classical music, Heitor Villla-Lobos. The German musicians are students of the Orchesterzentrum|NRW, whereas the Brazilian musicians come from the EMESP (Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo), one of the biggest initiatives of music education in São Paulo.
They got to know each other and each other’s cultures in São Paulo and had two performances at the Theatro Municipal in São Paulo on May 13th and 14th. After the opening, some students from Brazil and Germany will form a smaller chamber music ensemble, the “Young Euro Classic Ensemble Brazil-Germany“. Together they will go on tour in 11 states in 12 different cities. Thus, they will open up the Germany Year in many parts of Brazil. On tour, they will also present a German-Brazilian programme.
