Admission requirements

_Evidence of artistic aptitude or outstanding artistic talent respectively by passing the aptitude test at the Folkwang University of the Arts

Language requirements

_Applicants have to verify proof of language level C1 with enrolment.

 

_The required levels of language skills at Folkwang University of the Arts are in accordance to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Costs

_50 € application fee: For your application a fee of € 50 is due. The amount will be shown to you in the application form.

 

_No tuition fees are charged at Folkwang.

 

_Each semester all students have to pay a social contribution for the services of the Student Union, a student contribution for the work of the AStA (General Student Committee) and the VRR/NRW ticket. A breakdown of the amounts plus information on how to pay is available here.

Applications must be submitted via the Folkwang Application Portal by the end of the application period on 15 November (for the following summer semester) or on 15 March (for the following winter semester). The portal is open for applications from 1 October to 15 November and from 15 January to 15 March

B. COMPLETION OF THE APPLICATION

Die Feststellung der künstlerischen Eignung besteht aus einer digitalen Vorrunde (1. Stufe des Auswahlverfahrens) und einer Präsenzprüfung (2. Stufe des Auswahlverfahrens). 

 

Digitale Vorrunde (1. Runde)

 

Für die digitale Vorrunde gelten die folgenden formalen Anforderungen:

 

1. Die Bewerber*innen reichen fristgerecht eine digitale Mappe auf elektronischem Weg ein,

 

2. die Bewerber*innen beachten die gültigen formalen Vorgaben, die für die jeweilige Bewerbungsfrist auf der Homepage der Folkwang Universität der Künste veröffentlicht werden und

 

3. die digitale Mappe enthält Tonsatzarbeiten / Kompositionen / Musikproduktionen / Analysen.

 

Für die digitale Vorrunde gelten die folgenden inhaltlichen Kriterien:

 

1. Satztechnische Fertigkeiten,

2. Angemessenheit verwendeter Gestaltungsmittel, auch in historisch-stilistischer Hinsicht,

3. Vielfalt und Originalität,

4. ggf. analytische und musikpublizistische Fertigkeiten.

 

Bewerber*innen, die bestanden haben, werden schriftlich zur Präsenzprüfung eingeladen.

 

Präsenzprüfung (2. Runde)

 

Die Präsenzprüfung besteht:

 

1. Aus einer mündlichen Prüfung mit praktischen Anteilen im Hauptfach Musiktheorie von ca. 30 Minuten Dauer und

 

2. einer praktischen Prüfung im Begleitfach Instrument/Gesang/Dirigieren von ca. 15 Minuten Dauer.

 

Beide Prüfungen können auch digital durchgeführt werden.

 

Zu den Prüfungsteilen der mündlichen Prüfung gehören:

 

1. Die Präsentation der Mappe, die für die digitale Vorrunde eingereicht wurde,

2. Fragen zu musiktheoretischen Inhalten,

3. eine Ad-Hoc-Analyse bzw. Höranalyse und

4. Klavier-/Generalbassspiel.

 

Für die mündliche Prüfung gelten die inhaltlichen Kriterien der digitalen Vorrunde.

 

Die praktische Prüfung besteht aus dem Vortrag von Literatur bzw. einem Dirigat mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrades.

 

Für die praktische Prüfung gelten die folgenden inhaltlichen Kriterien:

 

1. Instrumental- bzw. gesangstechnischer Leistungsstand und

2. musikalische Ausdrucksfähigkeit.

Enrolment

Only after you have successfully applied for a study place is your last step in the application process enrolment. Enrolment takes place at the end of September for the start of studies in October and at the end of March for the start of studies in April. Please refer to your letter of admission for the exact period.
