Two-stage aptitude testing procedure for Winter Semester 2021/22
Gemäß § 4 Absatz 1 der Ordnung über die vom Rektorat getroffenen Ausnahmeregelungen in Umsetzung der Corona-Epidemie-Hochschulverordnung (Amtliche Mitteilung Nr. 369) haben das Rektorat der Folkwang Universität der Künste und der Fachbereichs 3 am 9.12.2020 und am 15.01.2021 folgende Änderungen für die Durchführung des Eignungsprüfungsverfahrens für den Masterstudiengang „Gesang | Musiktheater“ (M.Mus.) beschlossen:
In Ergänzung zu den Regelungen der Rahmenordnung zur Feststellung der künstlerischen oder studiengangsspezifischen Eignung und der besonderen künstlerischen Begabung vom 06.06.2018 in Verbindung mit § 3 der Prüfungsordnung für den Masterstudiengang Gesang | Musiktheater (M.Mus.) vom 08.08.2018 findet das Eignungsprüfungsverfahren für das Wintersemester 2021/2022 als zweistufiges Verfahren statt.
The first stage will be digitally conducted and consists of the timely submission of applicants' own re-cordings by electronic means (video links).
The following subject-specific regulations apply to the recordings
Recordings:
- Should not be more than 6 months old
- May be created using simple technical equipment
- Must not be edited in any way
- Total length up to 15 min
Repertoire:
- 3 pieces from different stylistic periods and in different languages
- One must be in german
- One must be a recitative with aria
- One must be an art-song
- One must be a piece composed after 1950
- All pieces may also be performed without accompaniment
Assessment criteria:
- Vocal technical abilities and sound quality
- Technical and artistic handling of the repertoire
- Artistic expressiveness and stage presence
- Stylistic confidence and musicality
- Vocal and artistic potential
If this first stage of the examination procedure is passed, the candidate is invited to the second stage. The examination in the second stage of the aptitude testing procedure takes place with the candidate physically present as laid down in § 3 of the Examination Regulations for the Voice | Music Theatre master study course.

For the study course “Voice | Music Theatre“ you will need the following documents:
Please note: We must have received your application documents in paper form not later than the application deadline March 15th (for the following winter semester).
For your application a fee of € 50 is due.
If you apply for multiple study courses simultaneously, the fee is € 50 for the first application and € 15 for every additional study course. The amount will be automatically calculated and shown to you in the application form.
The aptitude tests for the winter semester usually take place in mid/end of May. Please note that you will have to be on site for the aptitude test.
For the aptitude test candidates have to prepare five works from three different stylistic epochs. Of these one has to be a work before 1800, one work after 1950, one work a comprehensive recitative with aria and one an art song. At least one work must be presented in German and two other works in two further languages. The works should be on a level of difficulty that the candidates are comfortable with.
Please bring a handwritten or typed, up-to-date aptitude test programme with you on the day of the aptitude test. The aptitude test committee will select works of the prepared programme to be presented and reserves the right to interrupt the presentation of an item. Following the vocal performance a short talk with the aptitude test committee will take place. A piano exam is not intended.
