Orchesterzentrum|NRW
The NRW Orchestra Centre, situated in Dortmund, is a joint institution of the four state conservatoria in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Detmold, Düsseldorf, Essen and Cologne), making it a key location of the Folkwang University of the Arts in Dortmund. In early April 2009 the Master’s program in Orchestral Playing moved into a new building next to the Dortmund concert hall. Orchesterzentrum|NRW has the use of a total of 2,400 square metres on the ground floor and first floor of the building on the corner of Brückstrasse and Helle in the Dortmund city centre. The new building offers students and teachers ideal conditions for tuition, rehearsals and public concerts. The proximity to the concert hall means good opportunities to extend their close cooperation still further.
Within the framework of the newly designed Master’s course in Orchestral Playing, highly qualified young musicians will be prepared at Orchesterzentrum|NRW for a career in a distinguished orchestra. The training, which covers four semesters, is practical and goal-oriented. The course focuses upon training in orchestra-specific skills along with preparation for auditions and for the year of probation. In order to create a close connection with the international orchestral scene, Orchesterzentrum|NRW invites concertmasters, soloists and section principals from major orchestras as guest lecturers. Thus students are not only exposed to a diverse range of musical ideas but also come into personal contact with leading representatives of famous orchestras. For conservatorium graduates who envision their future in an orchestra, the Master’s course in Orchestral Playing offers a comprehensive specialisation that will equip them for their career.
