NOW! Das Festival für Neue Musik

NOW! Das Festival für Neue Musik präsentiert jährlich unter wechselndem Motto Musik der Gegenwart mit zahlreichen Ur- und Erstaufführungen. Seit den Anfängen 2010 ist die Folkwang Universität der Künste feste Partnerin des Festivals und gestaltet NOW! 
Die Philharmonie Essen richtet NOW! gemeinsam mit der Folkwang Universität der Künste, der Stiftung Zollverein und dem Landesmusikrat NRW aus. Das Festival NOW! wird ermöglicht durch die Alfried Krupp von
Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung, die Kunststiftung NRW und das Ministerium für Kunst und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.

NOW! 2022 | "Horizonte"

Als Claude Debussy 1889 durch die Pariser Weltausstellung flanierte, war es plötzlich um ihn geschehen. Erstmals lauschte er den exotischen Klängen eines Gamelan-Orchesters. Diese Musik aus dem fernen Indonesien veränderte Debussys musikalisches Weltbild. Man muss eben nur über den Tellerrand hinausblicken – und schon hört man die Welt mit anderen Ohren. Solchen musikalischen Horizont-erweiterungen widmet sich die neueste, die nunmehr zwölfte Ausgabe des Essener Neue-Musik-Festivals
NOW!. „Horizonte“ lautet der Titel, der zu faszinierenden und facettenreichen Klangabenteuerreisen einlädt. Denn in den zahlreichen Konzerten kommen Komponist*innen und Musiker*innen aus vielen Teilen der Erde zusammen und präsentieren ein Programm, das mit außergewöhnlichem Instrumentarium und den damit verbundenen Klangwelten überrascht.

W3 professorship for the subject “Contemporary Dance”

Folkwang University of the Arts has a vacancy for a W3 professorship for the subject “Contemporary Dance”, to be staffed at the next possible date.

The successful candidate shall represent the “Contemporary Dance" subject in the Institute of Contemporary Dance (IZT, which includes the B.A. and M.A. study courses, the Folkwang Dance Studio and the Dance Archive). Furthermore, the tasks will also include leadership responsibilities in the above-mentioned areas.

The following requirements are expected from the applicants:

  • a completed university degree in the field of Dance or an equivalent artistic aptitude (refer to § 29 of the Kunsthochschulgesetz des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (KunstHG NRW; Art Universities Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia))
  • several years of extensive stage activity in the field of contemporary dance at international level
  • an international reputation as a choreographer
  • a minimum of 2-years pedagogical experience in the field of contemporary dance at universities or comparable institutions
  • expertise in the communication of both contemporary dance techniques and methods of creative processes
  • international networking
  • the ability to develop training structures
  • fluent in both spoken and written German and English

Furthermore, an interest in the combination of theory and practice is desirable.

Hiring requirements are determined by § 29 of the Kunsthochschulgesetz des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (KunstHG NRW; Art Universities Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia).

In addition to teaching, dedicated interdisciplinary collaboration with potentially all study courses of the university is expected. To this effect, applications should contain an exposé on an interdisciplinary teaching concept at Folkwang University of the Arts.

Assisting in Folkwang University of the Arts‘ didactic development and self-administration boards as well as participating in developing the study courses is obligatory.

Employment will be permanent – with a civil service status or a Privatdienstvertrag (private-law employment relationship) depending on qualifications.
In case of pending pedagogic qualifications, employment will be temporary at first.

The salary is based on pay grade W3 of Landesbesoldungsordnung W (LBesO NRW; State Remuneration System W) in conjunction with the Besoldungsgesetz für das Land Nordrhein-Westfalen (LBesG NRW; Remuneration Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia). Currently, the teaching load is 18 semester periods per week.

Folkwang University of the Arts is seeking an increase in female employees in those departments where they are underrepresented and thus invites women with pertinent qualifications to apply.
