The General Student Committee (AStA) is selected by the Student Parliament (StuPa) and is the executive organ of the student body. The AStA represents the interests of all students both internally in the university and externally. The team consisting of the AStA board, management and advisors meets regularly and addresses a wide range of themes and projects divided between them.
We encourage students to come to us with all their concerns. We provide advice and active support, wherever we can. We can be reached during our office hours in the AStA Office; students are warmly welcomed. Appointments at other times are possible by arrangement.
With immediate effect, students at our university can use the white/orange-painted bicycles from MetropolradRuhr. The conditions: the first 60 minutes per hire are free of charge; then €0.50 for each half-hour started. The current locations for hiring and returning bicycles are available on the metropolradruhr website.
To register, enter your mobile telephone number, name and Folkwang email address and select Folkwang University of the Arts in the field ‘Contractual partner'. You do not need to fill in the field 'Tariff options' – simply tick the AGB (General Terms and Conditions) checkbox and subsequently click on the verification link in the email you will receive from nextbike. With your personal PIN, which will be sent to you by SMS, you can then log in to your customer account at any time. You can register here.
To rent a bicycle at a bicycle station, it is advisable to install the nextbike app, in order to request the code for the combination lock of the bicycle in question. You can also manually rent a bicycle without a smartphone directly at the bicycle station or via the hotline.
The first time you use the bicycle for more than the 60 free minutes, your customer account will be blocked. It will be unblocked as soon as a means of payment is set in your customer account. You can, of course, also set this up right at the beginning.
Youngcaritas in Essen has initiated the action "Taking refugees with you". In the evenings (after 7 pm) and at weekends, students at our university can take one person with them on their VRR ticket. You can draw attention to this with a button and thus show people – particularly refugees – that they do not have to buy a ticket. More information on the action is directly available on the "Taking refugees with you" website. You will find the buttons for this action in the AStA hut.
