The position represents the Faculty in research and teaching in the Industrial Design Bachelor study course, the graduate Heterotopia/Design Programme as well as the future Master study course in the area of Industrial Design.
The position encompasses the initiation and conducting of research and study projects as well as the close relationship between theoretical-academic reflection and project-based practice. Furthermore, the ability and readiness both to implement and further develop the insights provided by ergonomics within their entire spectrum applicable to design are essential.
The Design Faculty at the Folkwang University of the Arts perceives Industrial Design explicitly on a cross-disciplinary basis in research and teaching. The candidate should therefore possess an interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and research. Networking with universities and (research) institutions is expected.
Hiring requirements are determined by § 29 of the KunstHG NRW: a university degree in one of the ergonomics or design-relevant fields is a prerequisite. Teaching experience and the procurement of third-party funding are expected. A doctoral degree or comparable academic achievement is desirable.
In addition to teaching in the Industrial Design study course, dedicated interdisciplinary collaboration with potentially all study courses of the university is expected. The interdisciplinarity of the Folkwang University of the Arts shall be depicted in an exposé on the teaching concept to be submitted with the application.

Assisting in Folkwang University of the Arts’ university didactic development and self-administration boards as well as participating in further developing the study programs is obligatory.
Employment will be permanent – with a civil service status or a Privatdienstvertrag depending on qualifications. In case of pending pedagogic qualifications, employment will be temporary at first.
The salary is based on pay grade W2 of Landesbesoldungsordnung W i.V./Besoldungsgesetz für das Land Nordrhein-Westfalen – LBesG NRW. Currently, the teaching load is 13 semester periods per week.
