Collaboration: both national and international

Cooperation
It goes without saying that for us, inter-disciplinary work also means maintaining close contact with commerce and industry. Applied research on current issues along with concrete work with and for well-known companies with which we cooperate (such as AUDI AG, Volkswagen, IBM and Coca-Cola) keeps our program both lively and grounded in reality.

Internationalism
The Design Faculty maintains intensive international partnerships. Student and teacher exchange agreements are in place with over 50 universities of design around the world. We are co-founders of the international CUMULUS organisation, to which more than 160 art, design and media universities worldwide belong.

Innovation factory

Engineers, scientists, economists and scholars in the humanities at the University of Duisburg-Essen are working hand in hand with Industrial Designers at the Folkwang University of the Arts in designing the future. In the context of this INNOVATION FACTORY, the resources of knowledge & creativity are bundled in a forward-looking way, so as to accelerate innovation transfer. That’s why the INNOVATION FACTORY was selected by the “Germany – land of ideas” initiative as one of the “365 places” in 2009. More than 2,000 applications were received in the competition as part of this initiative under the aegis of President Horst Köhler together with Deutsche Bank

The INNOVATION FACTORY will present a look at development „from brain-storming to the start of production “, under precisely this motto, on 7 October on the Duisburg campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The Initiative is supported by the federal government and economy, represented by the Federal Association of German Industry (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie – BDI) and leading companies.
