Lakenhal

Henrietta Horn’s choreography „Lakenhal“ is inspired by Flanders, the northern area of Belgium.

The title „Lakenhal” is the first reference to Flanders as it is the Flemish word for fabric hall. The stage setting pays as well tribute to the theme: white fabric which flows from the ceiling builds the scenery.

More references are to follow in the piece, as the choreography, set against the historical background of Flanders, associatively considers factors that have forcefully influenced Flanders past such as heteronomy, repression and confrontation.

Like a thread, rebellion is running through the piece, either in secret through mere presence or in direct confrontation, as an act of withstanding, as resistance or simply through exuberant joy. All this is found in the powerful dances and the interaction of eye contact on stage. Additionally, there are breathtaking scenes full of zest, humour and lightness.

„Lakenhal” allows glimpses into the landscapes of human souls. The piece develops expressive images which touch the spectator with their specific poetry and intensity.
