About Mark Sieczkarek

Mark Sieczkarek, born in Inverness, Scotland in 1962, starts on a classical career: His training at the Royal Ballet School in London (1973 to 1981) is followed by an engagement at the "Scapino Ballet" for Children in Amsterdam. This is where he creates his first choreographies. He outpaces his studies as a dancer in the "Penta Theatre" Collective in Rotterdam (1983 to 1985). And subsequently joins up with Pina Bausch in Wuppertal. Three formative years, but his creative urge wins out. From 1988 he works as a freelance dancer and choreographer. In 1998 he forms the Mark Sieczkarek Company, in which he performs both solo and with changing ensembles - with national and international success. With over 30 choreographies in 20 years as well as several dance projects in Africa, South America and Europe, Sieczkarek is one of the most productive and remarkable dance artists of his generation. He is the holder of the North Rhine-Westphalia state Encouragement Prize (1996) and the Wolfgang Max Faust Award (1999).More information on Mark Sieczkarek is available at: www.mark-sieczkarek-company.de
