Acting | Directing – Artist Diploma

The course communicates everything relating to directing skills – and more – that students will need to work as professional directors. The objective is to prepare graduates in a comprehensive way to arrange, study and direct productions. The Folkwang’s concept of shared basic training in acting means that students of directing gain an intensive insight into acting processes.

Another important component of the Folkwang training is the involvement of directing students in project work and in the aesthetic discussions that arise from this, so as to stimulate a critical discourse on issues relating to the function and significance of “directing” or “director’s theatre”.

Because only two students are accepted each year, the directing course at Folkwang University of the Arts is extremely individual. We expect and encourage initiative from students, especially in developing cross-disciplinary Folkwang productions and students’ own pieces/projects.
