Institute for Popular Music
The Institute for Popular Music is a central institute of the Folkwang University of the Arts, financed by supplementary funds provided by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), and was officially established in December 2013 by a Folkwang Senate decision. It started its teaching and learning activities in 2014/15 winter semester in the Bochum campus with a 4-semester Master study course in „Popular Music“.
"Popular Music" Master's course
As an interdisciplinary project-based course of study, the artistic practical "Popular Music" Master's course is is unique to Germany. The study course is aimed at artists with a Bachelor degree and artistic experience and is conducted in close partnership with the ecce (european centre for creative economy) as well as in cooperation with the SAE and other partners.

- Application deadline for 2015/16 winter semster is 15th March 2015
This new institute is designed as a place for young creative talents, for artists and innovative pop music actors and stands for a high artistic quality of Popular Music in teaching and studying. The purpose of the Master study programme is to foster outstanding young personalities and stimulate the music scene in Germany.
