Applying for Communication Design

To make an application, the following documents must be submitted (at the University of Duisburg-Essen):

• an application form filled out by the person wishing to apply for the course (see right to Download)
• a certified complete transcript or certified copy of the university entrance qualification certificate (in exceptional cases, school documentation of accreditation to take the “Abitur” university entrance examination)
• a portfolio with at least 25 samples of your own work (drawings, sketches, photos and/or designs), from which an aptitude for the course in question can be recognised.
• the completed assignment. Topic for 2013: „Fußgängerbilder“ (20 drawings, minimum A4)
  

Note!
The fee of € 30,00 is not required for participation in the aptitude testing exercise in the Design program

Deadline
Application documents must be submitted from Wed, April 24 to Fri, April 26 2013 (from 9 am to 3 pm on each of these days) to the Design Faculty, c/o University of Duisburg-Essen – Campus Essen, Universitätsstr. 12, 45141 Essen, building R12 S02 (2nd floor), corridor H in room: R12 S02 H17.

About the content of the portfolio
The application portfolio must contain drawing/design and/or photographic work (minimum size for black and white photos: 24x30cm).
Format, packaging and labelling of the portfolio

To facilitate the work of the office and Admissions, please observe the following points in your portfolio design:

• each sample of work must be marked with your name and numbered;
• please pack the samples flat;
• please write the sender’s address legibly on both sides of the portfolio;
• please keep the portfolio size between DIN A3 and DIN A1;
• a numbered list of contents must be included with every portfolio.
  

Late registrations and portfolios will not be considered. If the response is positive, the applicant will be sent an invitation to take part in the three-day aptitude testing exercise.

Advice on subjects for study and portfolios
Subject consultations take place from October to April – not in the application period and the months of June to September.
Intending students are given the opportunity to discuss their work with a lecturer. We recommend that you bring all of the work that you have, without preselection.
