Admission requirements

_Evidence of a professionally recognised university Bachelor degree (minimum three-year duration) in a relevant artistic or scientific study course or evidence of an equivalent, professionally qualifying university degree. Additionally

_1. For the field of study choreography: a qualified choreographic practice of at least two years, whereby choreographic activities carried out during a course of study are also taken into account.

 

_2. For the field of study Interpretation: a qualified professional practical experience of at least two years, whereby professional practical activities performed during a study programme are also taken into account.

 

_Evidence of artistic aptitude by passing the aptitude test at the Folkwang University of the Arts

Language requirements

_Applicants have to verify proof of language level A1 with enrolment.

 

_The required levels of language skills at Folkwang University of the Arts are in accordance to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Costs

_50 € application fee: For your application a fee of € 50 is due. The amount will be shown to you in the application form.

 

_No tuition fees are charged at Folkwang.

 

_Each semester all students have to pay a social contribution for the services of the Student Union, a student contribution for the work of the AStA (General Student Committee) and the VRR/NRW ticket. A breakdown of the amounts plus information on how to pay is available here.

Applications must be submitted via the Folkwang Application Portal by the end of the application period on 15 March (for the following winter semester). The portal is open for applications from 15 January to 15 March.

B) COMPLETION OF APPLICATION

Aptitude test

The aptitude tests usually take place in May. You will find the exact dates at the top right as soon as they are fixed. Please note that you must be present in person for this.


The aptitude test consists – depending on the field of study - of one or more practical presence tests as well as a creative assignment and a colloquium. 

 

Field of study Choreography:


1. group training in contemporary dance 

2. presentation of a self-designed 5-minute choreography 

3. realisation of a creative task spontaneously set by the examination commission

4. colloquium 


Field of study Interpretation:


1. group training in contemporary dance 

2. group training in classical dance 

3. presentation of a self-designed 2-minute solo 

4. realisation of a creative task spontaneously set by the examination commission 

5. colloquium 


Field of study Movement Notation/Analysis:


1. group training in contemporary dance, whereby applicants without a contemporary dance background may replace the contemporary training with a presentation of their own movement material


2. colloquium. For the colloquium, applicants for the field of study Movement Notation/Analysis will be sent a list of questions. The applicant's answers must be submitted in writing to the Folkwang University of the Arts no later than 5 days before the date of the examination.
